London, Ontario – The Grand Theatre’s current production of the musical, “Hair”, is benefitting from a surprising addition to the cast – an innovative new microphone developed by local wireless audio solutions company, Quantum5X Systems Inc. The Incognito WigMic™ is the first wireless microphone transmitter designed specifically for use under wigs.
Hair is the first professional theatrical production mic’d entirely using Q5X’s Incognito. Sixteen cast members will wear the advanced wireless transmitter during performances, meeting a challenging demand of the production.
“Hair is known to be one of the most difficult musicals to stage from an audio design perspective” says Deb Harvey, Executive Director of The Grand Theatre, “The brief nude scene requires wireless mics for the vocals but makes hiding traditional body pack transmitters very difficult. The Q5X Incognito WigMic is the perfect invisible solution”.
The two piece design of The Incognito WigMic™ and thin profile make it easy to hide and almost unnoticeable to the actor. As part of Q5X’s Remote Control Audio System (RCAS), all aspects of transmitter operation can be remotely monitored and controlled from a computer interface. The Grand Theatre conducted a small test of the Incognito WigMic during their Christmas production of Cinderella and received glowing reviews from wardrobe director and audio crew. The cast member using the device commented, “I loved it. It was so light I forgot it was there.”
Initially introduced on players at the NBA All-Star Game in 2009, the discreet RCAS transmitter has been thoroughly field tested in world leading sports and theatrical venues. The largest theatrical installation, consisting of 300 mics in the heels of the tap shoes of Radio City Music Hall’s Rockettes, has been in operation for the last three seasons in New York.
“It delights me to create an enhanced experience for performers…, be it actors, dancers or athletes”, says Paul Johnson, CEO, “We believe that the Q5X Incognito WigMic will become a standard and valuable audio tool for theatres everywhere”.

Quantum5X Systems Inc. INSTALLS WORLD’S LARGEST REMOTE CONTROL AUDIO SYSTEMTM AT NEW YORK’S RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL

London Ontario, November 18, 2010 – Quantum5X Systems Inc. announced today that it has successfully installed the world’s largest Remote Control Audio System TM (RCASTM) for the Radio City Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. The system captures the sound of the Radio City Rockettes tap numbers using a remote control wireless microphone built into the sole of each shoe.

The Radio City Music Hall TapShoeMicTM project began during the 2009 Christmas Spectacular season with 150 remote control wireless transmitters and was doubled this year to a total of 300 transmitters and 80 receivers. “The wireless TapShoeMicsTM are unique to Radio City Music Hall and reflect our commitment to investing in new technology in efforts to deliver the best audience experience possible.” Says Larry Sedwick, SVP Productions, Madison Square Garden Entertainment.

The TapShoeMicTM is a customized version Q5X’s remote control transmitter used in the rugged QT-5000 Playermic® which was developed for professional sports. This implementation has a special housing for attachment to the tap shoe and an integrated rechargeable lithium-ion battery.

The RCASTM software allows remote control of the settings and monitors the status of all 300 transmitters from a central computer via a 2.4GHz radio frequency control channel. This capability enables audio technicians to turn microphones on/off and make on-the-fly adjustments to frequency and audio level during a performance. More importantly with New York City’s crowded RF spectrum, it allows multiple groups of transmitters used at different times in the performance to easily share the 80 receivers and associated frequencies without the need for an audio technician to touch the transmitters. The RCASTM with shared receivers is the only practical way to implement 300 transmitters into a single show.

“Quantum5X is proud of our partnership with Radio City Music Hall and our accomplishment in implementing this very demanding project.” says Paul Johnson, CEO, “The TapShoeMicTM has succeeded in one of the most difficult environments imaginable.”

Quantum5X Systems Inc. Announces the Remote Control Audio System

London, Ontario – October 6, 2010 – Quantum5X Systems Inc., the manufacturer of the world’s smallest broadcast quality wireless microphone systems, announced today that it is launching the Remote Control Audio System (RCAS) through its dealer network. “I see the Q5X Remote Control Audio System as the most significant development in wireless microphone technology in at least 20 years”, says James Stoffo, RF Consultant.

Initially introduced as Remote Control PlayerMics® at the NBA All-Star Game in 2009, the RCAS has been thoroughly field tested over the last two years in world leading sports and theatrical venues. A large theatrical installation consisting of 150 transmitters, all operated from one central control panel, was launched a year ago and is currently being expanded to include 300 transmitters.

The RCAS allows remote control of all transmitter settings and monitoring of status via a 2.4 GHz radio frequency control channel. This capability enables audio technicians to turn microphones on/off and make on-the-fly adjustments to frequency and audio level during a performance; without touching the transmitter. It also allows multiple transmitters used at different times in a performance to share one receiver and one frequency, reducing RF congestion.

The RCAS software runs in Windows and starts with a base system that can control up to five transmitters simultaneously at a range of up to 75 feet. The system can be expanded to hundreds of transmitters controlled over an entire venue. RCAS transmitters can be tuned to 4000 frequencies and maintain the same rugged, miniaturized packaging that has made Quantum5X the standard for demanding wireless microphone applications. Customized versions of the RCAS transmitter have been embedded into the heels of tap shoes and have worked flawlessly over hundreds of performances.

“Quantum5X is very proud to launch another innovative wireless audio solution into our dealer network”, says Paul Johnson, CEO, “In a world of shrinking available RF spectrum and increasing expectations for sound capture, the Remote Control Audio System is a powerful new tool to deliver dependable, high quality audio performance.”

About Quantum5X Systems Inc:
Quantum5X Systems Inc. (Q5X®) is an award-winning London, Ontario, Canada corporation that specializes in the creation of leading edge, wireless audio solutions for the broadcast, sports and entertainment sectors.
